MAKE YOUR IMPACT 3.0
March 14 – 16, 2023

The Placement Cell of Shivaji College, University of Delhi, (under the aegis of IQAC) hosted a 3-day immersive skill development workshop, “Make your Impact 3.0” from 14th to 16th March 2023 with the objective of addressing students on the skill sets required in the present job market. More than 100 participants from different universities, colleges joined actively to make it a great success.

Shikha Gupta, President of the Placement Cell, gave the opening address and the workshop commenced with an introductory remark and a welcome address from Dr Jayita Thakur, Convenor of the Placement Cell followed by the kind words of our respected Principal Sir, Dr. Shiv Kumar Sahdev.

The first day marked the session by Mr. Anil Baduria, Sr. Regional Head of T.I.M.E, "Complexities of Personal Branding and CV Building" conducted on 14th of march. In his session, he highlighted the importance of personal branding and how one could do that, along with that he elaborated how one could refine his/her CVs to target the potential recruiters.

The resource person for the second-day of workshop, “Ace the Discussion” was Mr. Sunil Dua, an English Professor with 25 years plus experience and Senior Regional head at T.I.M.E. He emphasised thinking out of the box and suggested sharing a unique perspective in order to make an impression and stand out from the crowd. He also discussed the importance of building the ability to round the entire conversation and amplifying what you already know to make a point and how to ace any discussion majorly group discussions.

The event came to a conclusion with the last session, “The Career Counsel” on the 16th of march. The guest speaker was Mr. Sunil Dua, he provided with great insights of how ones career could shape and kickstart at exponential pace. He diligently counselled students about different career streams.

All the sessions of the event were successfully interactive which created an excellent learning ambience and experience during the seminars. The event was concluded with vote-of-thanks and Dr. Jayati Thakur congratulated the entire team for organizing such a successful event. She also extended her heartfelt thanks to the guest speakers and all the participants.

Day 1: Complexities of Personal Interview & CV Building

The Placement Cell of Shivaji College, University of Delhi, (under the aegis of IQAC) hosted a 3-day immersive skill development workshop, “Make your Impact 3.0” from 14th to 16th March 2023 with the objective of addressing students on the skill sets required in the present job market. The first day of the series was a workshop on "Complexities of Personal Interview and CV Development" by Mr. Anil Baduria.

The session commenced with an introductory remark by Diksha Sharma and a welcome address from Dr Jayita Thakur, Convenor of the Placement Cell, followed by the kind words of our respected Principal Sir, Dr. Shiv Kumar Sahdev.

The workshop on "Complexities of Personal interview and CV Creation" was held on March 14, 2023 and featured Mr. Anil Baduria, senior regional head (Academic) at TIME Education with more than 12 years of experience in the training and education sector. He mentored the students in this workshop and talked about how to improve their soft skills and aptitude. He explained the essential components of a resume and counseled the participants to include the necessary information on the first page. He led the students and spoke about how to acquire the abilities needed to succeed in group talks and in personal interviews. He also looked at certain participants' resumes and provided his analysis of them.

The session was quite interactive which created an excellent learning ambience for the attendees. It concluded with a round of Q&A and a vote-of-thanks. Dr. Jayita Thakur extended her heartfelt thanks to the guest speaker and all the participants.

Day 2: Ace the Discussion

The Placement Cell of Shivaji College, University of Delhi, (under the aegis of IQAC) hosted a 3-day immersive skill development workshop, “Make your Impact 3.0” from 14th to 16th March 2023 with the objective of addressing students on the skill sets required in the present job market. The second day of the series was a workshop on 'Ace the Discussion' by Mr. Sunil Dua.

The anchor Shikha Gupta gave the opening address and the seminar commenced with an introductory remark and a welcome address from Dr Jayita Thakur, Convenor of the Placement Cell. She felicitated the Chief Guest, Mr Sunil Dua.

Diksha Sharma continued the address and formally introduced and welcomed the chief guest, Mr Sunil Dua, an English honours graduate from Hansraj college, Delhi University with more than 25 years of experience in teaching industry and working as a Senior regional head in T.I.M.E. He also is a professional career counsellor and a soft skill training provider who has guided students in different colleges for their campus recruitments.

Mr Sunil Dua started the seminar by asking the audience about their experiences in group discussions throughout their life. He then discussed the importance of group discussions in the corporate world and how they can be used to evaluate an individual's communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork. During the seminar, Mr. Dua covered several crucial aspects of group discussions and gave us tips on how to highlight our forte and shade out from the rest of the crowd.

Some of the key takeaways from the seminar are:

  • Preparation: He stressed the importance of being well-informed about the topic, practicing speaking on the topic, and preparing notes to help during the discussion.
  • Communication Skills: He explained that individuals need to ensure that they are clear, concise, and confident in their communication.
  • Active Listening: He explained that individuals should listen carefully to other participants and respond appropriately.
  • Body Language: He emphasized the importance of maintaining good posture, using appropriate gestures, and avoiding nervous habits like fidgeting.
  • Leadership Qualities: He explained that individuals should take charge of the discussion by initiating relevant questions, summarizing points, and encouraging others to participate.

The highlight of the seminar was the group discussion rounds, where Mr. Dua asked the audience to form groups of nine and participate in a mock group discussion. The topic of discussion was “Social Media- boon or bane’’. During the discussion round, Mr. Dua observed each group's performance, providing feedback on their communication skills, leadership abilities, and overall teamwork. He emphasized the importance of listening to others' opinions and responding in a respectful and articulate manner.

The second topic for the next 9 people was ‘Should cricket be made a national sport in India?’. This insightful topic kept the audience engaged in the arguments of the GD members till the end.

The seminar concluded with a Q&A session where the audience was given the opportunity to ask Mr. Dua questions regarding group discussions. The questions ranged from tips on overcoming nervousness during group discussions to how to effectively lead a group. Dr. Jayati Thakur extended her heartfelt thanks to the guest speaker and all the participants.

Day 3: The Career Counsel

The Placement Cell of Shivaji College, University of Delhi, hosted a workshop on “Career Counselling” on 16th March, 2023 at 11 am in Jijabai Auditorium with the objective of guiding the students for career in their respective fields. More than 100 students joined with active participation to make it a great success.

The anchor Diksha Sharma gave the opening address and the workshop commenced with an introductory remark and a welcome address from Dr Jayita Thakur, Convenor of Placement Cell, and she felicitated the chief guest Mr. Sunil Dua.

Followed by felicitation of the Chief Guest Mr. Sunil Dua by Dr. Jayita Thakur, The Secretary of Placement Cell, Deepesh Singh Saini felicitated Mrs. Jayita Thakur.

Diksha Sharma continued the address and formally introduced and welcomed the chief guest, Mr. Sunil Dua, who is a senior regional head at T.I.M.E. education with a more than 25 years of experience in the training and education industry.

Mr. Sunil Dua commenced the workshop by focusing on the aspect of CV building and the significance it holds in our careers. He then moved on to providing course wise counselling to students and hence guiding them on one of the most crucial decisions of their life.

Towards, the end Mr. Sunil Dua addressed the doubts of students with utmost perseverance and his noteworthy experience in the field. Students, also, were curious and actively participated making it an interactive session.

Diksha formally thanked Mr. Sunil Dua for taking out his precious time to share his versatile knowledge in the field of Career Counselling with us.

The workshop was concluded with vote-of-thanks and Dr. Jayati Thakur congratulated the entire team for organizing such a successful event. She also extended her heartfelt thanks to the guest speakers and all the participants.

Training Session: Challenges of Personal & Group Interview
February 28, 2023

The Placement Cell, Shivaji College conducted a training session on "Challenges of Personal & Group Interview" in association with T.I.M.E Institute exclusively for final year students on 28th February 2023, at 11 AM in Campus with 50 attendees.

Mr. Amit Poddar, our esteemed speaker addressed the session with all the dilemmas of Personal Interview and also highlighted the current struggles that candidates faced during interviews. He conveyed various tips and tricks to overcome such troubles and gave insights on the same.

Further, the session moved on to the mock interview round where the trainer conducted a mock interview with one of the attendees and showcased a live Personal interview and all the different situations and questions that could be asked and how to strategically answer them.

The session concluded with the queries round, where questions from the audience were taken up and effort was made to resolve them.

With imparting knowledge regarding the topic and conveying all the ups and downs of the same, the training session was a huge success.

Workshop on: Data & Analytics
February 13, 2023 onwards (20 hours)

The Placement Cell organized a Workshop on "Data & Analytics" in association with Learning Links Foundation and Dell. This workshop was exclusively designed for women. As a part of the 20 hours program, communication skill building and job readiness workshops of duration 5 hours each were organized to empower women. This provided exposure and experience to women to develop knowledge and interest in the STEM area.

Under the guidance of Mr. Sonu Gupta, an esteemed mentor from Learning Links Foundation, this workshop began on 13th February 2023, with 40 applicants from our college, and came out to be a great success.

Orientation Programme for Freshers
January 25, 2023

The Placement Cell of Shivaji College conducted their orientation program on 25th January 2023 at 11 AM in Old Auditorium with more than 350 attendees, Placement Cell Team and the Teacher Council.

The program commenced with the acknowledgement of presence by our anchor Bhumika Chauhan, and welcoming all the freshers to the new journey ahead. The convener of Placement Cell, Dr. Jayita Thakur addressed the gathering and shared some valuable insights about the cell. She also conveyed insightful thoughts about the importance of doing internships during college time and encouraged students to become a part of the placement cell.

The team presented their annual report for the session 2021-22 through a video that covered the events, webinars, internships & placement drives as well as the add-on courses that were conducted by the cell in 2021-22.

The program was further carried forward by the President of the Placement Cell, Shikha Gupta, who addressed the students about the working of the society as well as the role of different teams in the society. She then further conveyed to students the process of how to be a part of the cell. She also told them about the webinars conducted during the lockdown period as well as about the various interesting and knowledgeable series which were conducted by the cell on the social media handles. She also discussed the placement portal and helped students know how to apply for various opportunities. On an encouraging note, she announced the Workshop of Data & Analytics exclusively designed for women to be organized by the Cell.

At last, the queries of the students were taken and answered. It was an interactive session where students were able to understand the functioning of society and were also able to clear their doubts regarding the Cell.

Career Opportunities - Higher Education Studies in USA

The Placement Cell of Shivaji College, University of Delhi, (under the aegis of IQAC) hosted a seminar on “Career Opportunities - Higher Education Studies in USA” on 1st December 2022 at 1 pm in Jijabai Auditorium with the objective of addressing students about studying in a foreign country and exploring a new culture. The resource person for the event was Ms. Aastha Virk Singh, Senior Advisor EducationUSA, United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF). USIEF was established in 1950 to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and India through the U.S. Government's flagship Fulbright Program for educational and cultural exchange.

More than 100 participants joined actively to make it a great success. The anchor Muskan Gera gave the opening address and the seminar commenced with an introductory remark and a welcome address from Dr Jayita Thakur, Convenor of Placement Cell, and she felicitated the chief guest Ms. Aastha Virk Singh. It was followed by felicitation of the Chief Guest, Mrs. Aastha Virk Singh by Dr. Jayita Thakur. The Secretary of Placement Cell, Deepesh Singh Saini felicitated Dr. Jayita Thakur. Muskan Gera continued the address and formally introduced and welcomed the chief guest, Ms Aastha Virk Singh, the Senior Adviser at EducationUSA, USIEF New Delhi.

Ms. Aastha Virk Singh, started the seminar. She started by comparing the difference between the undergraduate systems in US and India, and enquired about the enthusiasts interested in going to the US for higher Education. She then explained how EducationUSA helps students pursue their desire of pursuing higher education opportunities in the USA. Ms. Aastha Virk Singh concluded her presentation by beginning the questions and answers session. After addressing the questions put forward by the students, Mrs. Aastha finished her presentation by 2 pm. Muskan Gera formally thanked Ms. Aastha Virk Singh for presenting the seminar and invited Dr. Sonal to give a vote of thanks. The seminar was finally concluded by thanking the audience.

Resume Writing and Online Personal Brand Management
November 3, 2022

The Placement Cell of Shivaji College conducted a workshop on "Resume Writing and Online Personal Brand Management" in association with the Jaipuria Institute of Management on 3rd November 2022.

The speaker of the session was Professor Arpan Anand, a faculty member of the Jaipuria Institute of Management, and is experienced in higher education and Corporate industry. He is a skilled professional on family business, marketing management, sales and distribution and international marketing.

The Event was held in the college auditorium and began at 12 pm with more than 200 attendees and the anchors addressing the convenor and the principal of the college. The speaker proceeded with the session by introducing himself and explaining how a CV is assessed in companies and how it gets you a call for an interview. He mentioned some of the do's and don’ts to be taken care of that could make a CV stand out. Students were interactive throughout the session. The speaker provided some helpful insights into the corporate world that would help and assist the students in their careers.

Further, there was a Q&A round answering all the questions. The session concluded with a vote of thanks. In the end, a feedback form was distributed among the participants. The workshop was a great success.
