Shivaji College has been awarded with financial grant under the illustrious Star College Scheme of DBT, Govt of India in May 2019. The college has been awarded with Grade A on completion of one year of excellence in January 2021 and also recommended for the award of the Star Status by the DBT Task Force in October 2022 after the successful presentation of the activities conducted during the strengthening phase of the Star College Scheme.
Star College Scheme (SCS) has been initiated by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India in 2008 to support colleges and universities offering undergraduate education to improve science teaching across the country. DBT is committed to the values of i) Pursuit of excellence ii) Academic and intellectual freedom iii) Creativity and innovation iv) Diversity v) Cooperation and Communication & vi) Accountability. DBT has therefore, launched a scheme for improving critical thinking and 'hands on' experimental work at undergraduate (college) level in sciences. It is expected to encourage, more students to take up higher education in science.
The college is under the Cooling period/Gap of two years after the successful completion of the first phase in January 2023 as per the guidelines of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. During this phase also our college is organising various activities for the benefit of students and staff alike including Summer Training Programmes, Workshops, Educational Visits and mentoring sessions. The faculty members of all the departments under the Star College Scheme are committed to apply for the Star Status after the completion of the cooling period of two years.
