Dictum: The Debating Society - provides a unique platform for students to hone their oratory and analytical skills. They organise exciting events such as parliamentary debate and conventional debate on a mega scale. The society nurtures and develops public skills in both English and in Hindi. The Society organises two competitions annually - The Shivaji Bhonsle Debate Competition and Athena. Both the competitions are extremely popular in the university circuit. They have received a high turnout and an enthusiastic response from students across Delhi University. Dictum has been the most successful society in the academic year 2017-18 with over 50 inter-college and national level prizes, and it strives to rise higher.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Mahotsava: The Annual English Conventional Debate was organised in collaboration with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial National Committee on February 17, 2020. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from colleges across DU. The topic of the debate was “How should history treat Chhatrapati Shivaji, a savior of Hindu religion or an ideal benevolent leader”. Chief Guest Shri Motilal Vora, MP, Rajya Sabha presented the prizes.
Dictum has organised competitions throughout the semester such as Athena- Turncoat debate on February 21, 2020, Online Extempore Competition on May 1, 2020, Online Workshop on May 3, 2020 and Online Debate Competition on May 15, 2020.
Dictum, the Debating Society of Shivaji College, successfully organised the 5th edition of the Annual Shivaji Bhonsle English Conventional Debate 2019 on October 19, 2019, along with the Annual Shivaji Bhonsle Hindi Parliamentary Debate 2019 from October 19-22. The English Conventional Debate hosted 56 students from 28 institutions across the country.
