Shivaji College, part of the University of Delhi, stands out as one of the few institutions offering undergraduate Hons. and Prog. courses in geography. Established over 38 years ago, the Department of Geography launched its Hons. Course in 1988. It boasts a state-of-the-art cartography lab and essential infrastructure for comprehensive theory and practical classes. Beyond the extensive geography collection in the main library, the department maintains its own library for student resources. Classroom learning is enhanced through project work, field trips, and seminars, providing a well-rounded educational experience.

The department is actively involved in cutting-edge research projects and collaborates with national and international institutions to address pressing environmental and societal issues. For 2023-24, the Department completed two minor research projects funded by Shivaji College's Research and Innovation Cell under supervision of Dr. Lalita Rana and Dr. Preeti Tewari.
Currently, six Ph.D. scholars are conducting research under the guidance of Prof. Tejbir Singh Rana and Dr. Praduddh Kumar Mishra.
