Botany is the broad discipline encircling various subjects involved with the study of plants. Today Botany is not only restricted to fundamental and traditional knowledge, but also involves the modern and applied aspects like Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Bioinformatics etc. Now-a-days there are so many challenging areas in Botany, which motivates students to pursue an undergraduate honours programme that will help in developing their critical thinking, scientific reasoning, analytical skills, effective communication, and sensitivity towards environment and sustainable living.
B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany is an interesting and informative subject which offers vital knowledge and technical skills to study plants in a holistic manner. Use of Illustrations, Photographs, Charts, Permanent Slides, Museum and Herbarium Specimens along with ICT Methods provide an interesting insight into the beautiful world of plants. Students applying in this programme would be trained in all areas of plant biology using a unique combination of core and elective papers with significant inter-disciplinary components. The programme also offers skill enhancement course in II year, which provides the wider employment opportunities for the students. Students would be exposed to various progressive technologies that are currently used in the study of plant life forms, their evolution and interactions with other organisms within the ecosystem.
