Shivaji College, a constituent college of the University of Delhi. It is a co-educational institution offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Humanities, Science, and Commerce streams.

A premier institution in West Delhi, Shivaji College is accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC and was ranked among the top 10 Science colleges in the country in a 2017 India Today survey. In 2024, the college achieved a remarkable leap in the NIRF rankings, moving from 70 to 49 , reflecting its commitment to academic excellence.

Founded in 1961 by Hon'ble Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh , Union Minister for Agriculture, social activist, and farmer-leader, the college was established with the vision of providing quality higher education to both boys and girls in the predominantly rural area of Matiala. In 1967, the Government of Delhi took over the trusteeship of the college and relocated it to Karampura, and finally to its present campus in Raja Garden in 1976.

Shivaji College currently offers twenty undergraduate courses in Science, Commerce, and Humanities, along with a self-financing course in Bachelor's in Business Economics, three postgraduate programs(M.A.). Embracing diversity, Shivaji College offers opportunities to students nationwide, with over 47% of its student body hailing from states across India beyond Delhi.

Since 2019, Shivaji College has hosted an Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) study centre, serving over 3,400 undergraduate and postgraduate students with support from nearly 50 academic counsellors. The college also hosts the School of Open Learning (SOL), supporting over 1,000 students in their pursuit of higher education.

In addition to its regular academic programs, Shivaji College offers a variety of add-on courses to complement students' academic pursuits and enhance their skills. For this year, the college has offered the following courses: French, German, Poultry Farming , Role of Plants in Conservation, Mental Ability & Logical Reasoning , and Advanced Electoral Studies & Voting Behaviour Analysis . Designed for undergraduate students, these 2-3 month courses provide practical knowledge and are ideal for those seeking to expand their expertise beyond the regular curriculum. In 2024-25, the college offered an entrepreneurship oriented skill course ‘App Development using Flutter’ in collaboration with an NGO Samarth Bharat.

Several senior faculty members supervise Ph.D. scholars registered with the University of Delhi, while many are engaged in UGC-sponsored research projects. Our students consistently achieve academic excellence, frequently emerging as rank-holders in University examinations.

From its humble beginnings in a small building in rural Delhi, with borrowed science laboratories, the college has grown into a renowned institution with a 10-acre campus. The campus includes academic buildings, residential complexes, and sports facilities. The total built-up area of teaching and administrative blocks spans 10,002 square meters , housing 49 lecture rooms, most equipped with multimedia projection facilities. In addition, the college boasts 14 science laboratories and 4 computer labs with up-to-date software.

In February 2024, the college inaugurated the Jijabai Academic Block , a state-of-the-art facility featuring six advanced laboratories , a multipurpose hall, three auditoria with multimedia facilities, eight research laboratories, and dedicated staff rooms, along with elevators for added accessibility. Despite being located in a bustling part of the city, the campus remains lush and verdant, with tall trees, manicured lawns, and a pride-worthy herbal garden.

College library, Bhushan Granthalayais a well-equipped, resource-rich library dedicated to supporting the academic and research needs of students and faculty. With over 82,000 books, 7 print journals, and access to over 600,000 e-books and 20,000 print and e-journals through various platforms, the library offers a comprehensive collection of resources. It is also equipped with specialized aids for visually challenged students, including DAISY players, Braille kits, and a Portable Camera Reading System, ensuring inclusive access to learning materials. The library also features spacious reading and computer halls, fostering an environment conducive to study and research.

The College hosts a branch of the Central Bank of India, offering convenient banking services for staff and students. The bank's staff is dedicated to assisting account holders with personalized financial guidance and support.

Shivaji College offers a rich array of extracurricular activities that promote overall student development. The Cultural Committee includes societies for fashion, photography, theatre, dance, music, and fine arts, organizing events like Vibrations and Tanzmania to celebrate creativity. The Social Welfare and Awareness Committees focus on community service, gender sensitization, diversity, and entrepreneurship through initiatives by N.S.S., WDC , Inclusion Committee. The college encourages and motivates entrepreneurship through Udhmodhya,a vibrant combination of e cell and Enactus- Shivaji, a social entrepreneurship committee affiliated to the global organisation ENACTUS. TEDxShivajiCollege provides a dynamic platform for transformative ideas that foster innovation and inspire change. Aligned with the college’s mission of "transform one life, transform the nation," the event amplifies diverse voices to spark meaningful local and global impact. Shivaji College's VIRASAT, in collaboration with SPIC MACAY, celebrates heritage and promotes the significance of Bharatiya culture in the modern era.

The Placement and Internship Cell provides career opportunities and training through internships not only in industry but within the college. The College is proud of initiating Principal Internship Scheme where the students are given internship and training in the administration of the college. TheResearch and Innovation Cellfosters research excellence, promoting interdisciplinary intramural research projects funded by the college for students and faculty. Tree plantation drives, along with efforts to minimize the use of non-renewable resources, are key to reducing the college’s carbon footprint. The campus also integrates solar panels, rainwater harvesting pits , and a paper-recycling unit, food waste processing unit , and a vermicomposting pit reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability.

In 2023-24, Shivaji College proudly celebrated Shivraj 350 , marking the 350th anniversary of Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation. This milestone honored his legacy as a visionary leader and highlighted his relevance to modern fields like management and statecraft. Through year-long events—including debates, cultural programs, and the grand Rajyabhishek Mahotsav—the celebrations fostered unity, purpose, and a commitment to excellence.
