Institutional Development Plan 2024-25
Shivaji College is a constituent college of the University of Delhi under
the UGC Act of 2 (F) and 12 (B). Considered to be one of the premier
colleges in the University of Delhi, the college was established in 1961.
Shivaji College is accredited with A grade by NAAC. A DBT Star College,
Shivaji College is ranked 49 th among colleges by NIRF Ranking
2024. Imbibing the values of the great Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in terms
of resilience and commitment towards achieving goals for the welfare of the
nation, the college fraternity has been working incessantly towards
providing quality education to the students. The state-of-the-art
infrastructure and facilities create culturally-rooted, academically
enriched and mindful citizens of a resurgent Bharat. Shivaji College caters
to approximately 4000 students admitted to the twenty undergraduate courses
in Science, Commerce and Humanities, a self-financing course in Bachelors
in Business Economics, three post-graduate courses and certificate courses
in French & German. The efficient and qualified group of faculty
members are enabled to mentor the students and provide knowledge as per the
needs of NEP 2020.

STRATEGIC GOALS AND ACTIONS
1.
To foster & augment Academic Excellence
Goal: Enhance the quality of education keeping the policies
of NEP 2020 as a blueprint to drive holistic growth
Actions To be taken:
-
Classroom teaching to be
supported by ICT tools, E-resources, cognitive applications,
seminars & conferences
at the department level. Invited lectures from experts to add to the
growing knowledge bank of students.

Faculty members shall
follow uniform guidelines for structuring assignments
, clearly stating objectives, evaluation criteria and deadlines.
These would be made available to students at the beginning of each
semester.

Curriculum shall be
supplemented with add on courses
and help students take up internships to make them industry ready.
Immersive experiences of educational trips, internship programs go
beyond traditional learning and bridges the gap between classroom
learning and practical experience.

Collaboration with platforms like Swayam, Coursera or edX
will be encouraged.

Promoting institute-industry linkage

Encourage faculty development through
participation in symposia, field visits, and faculty improvement
programs. They would be encouraged to take up leadership
development programs. Inter-institutional visits will be fostered
to collaborate for curriculum development and exchange of
knowledge. Formation of centres of excellence is a direction for the
future to provide platform for high impact research, patents and
industry collaboration.
2. Enhancing research capabilities
Goal: Increase the quantum and quality of research. Recent
recruitments have strengthened teaching and research environment across the
college. Faculty members inclined towards research can be nurtured and
supported to focus on long-term growth and contribution. They will be
encouraged to undertake basic and applied research.
Actions To be taken:

Focus shall be on
promoting interdisciplinary research
and increase the number of faculty and student research projects.
The grant of intramural projects has been increased to Rs One lakh
from existing Rs Thirty Thousand.

Expand the College Research Cell’s activities,
providing more support for research and innovation initiatives.

The College also has its Research Journal
christened as
Shivraj 350: Multidisciplinary Journal
for faculty and students from across the nation and rather
worldwide.

Long term goals include
student led research labs or innovation centres
that foster interdisciplinary projects with commercialization
potential.

Conferences are essential in maintenance of a vibrant research
and academic culture
. College can initiate conferences led by students, where they can
present their work with awards for best contributions can motivate
participation. Applying for government and private sector grants
to support these events will reduce financial stress.
3. Inclusive Campus Environment
Goal: Ensure a supportive and inclusive environment for all
stakeholders.
Actions To be taken:

Shivaji College
caters to students from pan India and from diverse economic
backgrounds
. This heterogenous composition from all states of the country
allow a fruitful amalgamation of cultures and exposure for the
students as well.

Strengthen the role and activities of the
Equal Opportunity Cell, Women’s Development Cell, and
North-East Cell
.

Conduct
regular awareness programs, workshops, and self-defense
training
in collaboration with Delhi Police and other
institutions/organizations.
-
Strengthen facilities for
differently-abled students
, ensuring campus-wide accessibility through structural changes
like building more ramps wherever required. The College shall have
a guided navigation route within campus for visually challenged.

Making the website and
SPACE portal fully readable
(Currently, it is 80% readable)

Implement mentorship programs by pairing senior
students with newcomers, focusing on inclusivity and integration.
The existing peer learning system shall be strengthened.

College has introduced
‘Principal Internship Scheme’ or PIS
, that aims to give students practical experience for 6 weeks
during the summer break. This encourages ‘
earn while learn’
flexibility and facility.

Give incentive to senior students who train their juniors in
academics or in any skill development.
4. Infrastructure and Technological Advancements
Goal: Upgrade the physical and technological infrastructure
to support modern education needs.
Actions To be taken:

The College plans to
upgrade existing infrastructure and facilities
to meet the evolving needs of students and faculty. Effort shall be
put in to make the campus more inclusive and cater to special needs.
Apart from other aspects, the main focus areas for infrastructure
development in future shall be:
(i) Expanding laboratory facilities,
(ii) Upgrading technology infrastructure, installing relevant
latest software.
(iii) Improving accessibility for differently-abled individuals by
constructing ramp and guided pathways
(iv) Enhance sports facilities: Develop additional recreational
and sports facilities to promote physical well-being

Expand and upgrade ICT-enabled classrooms and
laboratories. Supplement classroom teaching with technology assistance
in virtual space.

Increase the capacity of Wi-Fi and internet services
to ensure seamless connectivity across campus.
-
Enhance library resources, including digital and
braille collections.
-
Upgrade the auditorium’s multimedia facilities to
support larger events and conferences
-
Disaster resilient and mitigation infrastructure in
the college. CCTV surveillance shall be strengthened.
5. Sustainable Practices
Goal: Promote eco-friendly and sustainable development
initiatives.
Actions To be taken:

Expand and maintain the existing rainwater harvesting
, solar panels and LED lighting installations.
-
Enhance the
capacity of existing vermicomposting and waste management
systems
.
-
Develop and maintain herbal garden.
-
Implement energy-saving practices across all
campus facilities and sensitize students towards it.
-
The college aims to reduce its environmental footprint as it
is a plastic-free zone.
-
Advance research, education, and practices in environmental
sustainability and disaster resilience through the
Center for Environment and Disaster Management (CEDM).
6. Community Engagement and Outreach
Goal: Strengthen ties with the community and contribute to
social development.
Actions To be taken:

Intensify activities under
the National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC) and
Vidya Vistar scheme (V2S) and Cultural Committee.
-
Develop more community outreach programs by
adopting a nearby village or slum area for development, education,
and environmental conservation.
-
Establish more
partnerships with local NGOs and governmental bodies
for collaborative projects and MoUs with other prestigious
institutes.
7. Administrative Efficiency and Transparency
Goal: Enhance administrative processes to improve
efficiency and transparency. Aim to have a paperless administration by
developing online/ digital systems. Governance enablers are expected to
promote transparency and quality assurance to ensure long term success of
the institute. The college is committed to enhance skills of the
non-teaching staff to ensure smooth operations of academic and
administrative activities.
Actions To be taken:

Upgrade the existing ERP systems for student and
faculty management.

Regularly update the college website with
relevant information about attendance, timetables, and internal
assessments.
-
Conduct training for administrative staff on new
technologies and management practices before the onset of every
semester.

Ensure
regular audits and reviews of administrative processes
to maintain transparency.

More staff shall be trained for using
technology and adopt digitization
.
MONITORING AND EVALUATION
Goal: Develop a robust system for continuous evaluation of
steps taken for IDP and examine whether the targets are met as planned.
Actions:
-
Create an
Institutional Development Committee (IDC)
to oversee the implementation of the IDP.
-
The Committee shall have regular review meetings
to assess progress against strategic goals.
-
Conduct annual surveys and feedback sessions with
students, faculty, and other stakeholders and set goals for amendments
accordingly. Student feedback will be highlighted to
prioritize interests and needs of the students
and monitoring of the points that emerge will be addressed.
-
Publish an annual report on the outcomes of the IDP, highlighting
successes and areas for improvement.
By implementing these strategic actions, Shivaji College aims to foster
an environment conducive to academic excellence, inclusivity and
sustainable development, aiming to position Shivaji College as a
premier institution of excellence in higher education and enhance its
leadership role in the global educational arena. This IDP has been
drafted with an aim to enable Shivaji College to strive for new heights
and provide a defined roadmap for future progress. It is in sync with
the University’s strategic plan (2024-2047), gearing with the national
priorities towards Viksit Bharat@2047.
