The annual Mathematics festival “Infinity” provides a platform to students for showcasing their mathematical skills through various events and competitions like paper presentation, mathematical quiz, mathematical games, and poster making competition. Students also get an opportunity to interact with the best brains in the field of mathematics and sciences. The Department invites eminent mathematicians and professionals who enrich the minds of students and teachers through their knowledge, experience and expertise.
The Mathematical Society of Shivaji College celebrated their annual festival INFINITY-2018 in February 2018. Prof. Aparna Mehra from IIT Delhi was the chief guest on the occasion. She delivered a talk on “Basic Linear Algebra”. As part of the programme, the Department had organised seven competitions – Mathematical Rangoli, Mathematical Poster Making, Mathematical Slogan Writing, Mathematical Debate, Paper Presentation, Sudoku Mania, and Treasure Hunt.
Department of Mathematics organised a Seminar on Use of GIS, GPS and Remote Sensing in Precision Agriculture on January 22, 2020. Hon'ble Speaker for the same was Dr. Kamlesh Narain Singh, Principal Scientist and Head, Division of Foresting and Agricultural Systems Modeling, ICAR- Pusa, New Delhi.
The Department of Mathematics organised two lecture-seminars for students during thw semester July-December 2019. The first lecture was delivered by Prof. Sudesh K. Srivastava, Department of Global Biostatistics and Data Science, Tulane University, New Orleans, LA USA, on the “Role of Statistics in Big Data” on August 8, 2019. The second seminar was held on “Development of Mathematics through Generations” on September 9, 2019. The speaker at the event was Prof. Hukum Singh, Former Dean Academics, Head-Department of Education in Science and Mathematics, Head-Division of Educational Kits, NCERT, New Delhi.
The Mathematical Society Tessaract of Shivaji College celebrated its annual festival Infinity 2019-2020 on October 4, 2019. Dr. Rajeev Mehajan, Group Captain, Scientist ‘G’/Adviser, Science & Engineering Research Board (A Statutory body under DST, Govt. of India), New Delhi was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. Mehajan interacted with the students by giving an inaugural talk on “Choosing Career Options”. Competitions such as Rangoli Competition, Sudoku, Paper Presentation, Mathematical Relay, Treasure Hunt, Pictionary and Mathematical Tambola were organised.
On Teacher’s Day, the Department of Mathematics participated in “Plantation Drive” organised by the Garden Committee.
