The NSS Unit of Shivaji College is committed to the cause of social upliftment and education and in this pursuit several small and big initiatives have been taken up from time to time.The NSS volunteers participated and attended the debate on “Global Nuclear Disarmament” organized by External Affairs Ministry in the month of August, 2012.

A health check-up and eye – check camp for the entire staff of the college was organized in September, 2012.

Phenology study, the study and analysis of behavioral patterns of plants and trees was done by NSS volunteers under the supervision of Dr. Geeta Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Botany. The results of the study were submitted to NSS centre, University of Delhi, and we are continuing with the study in the current academic session as well.

The Rama-Krishna Mission gave a presentation and showed a short movie on the life and ideology of Swami Vivekananda. The book “Awakening India” was distributed amongst students and staff. The programme was organized in the month of September, 2012.

International Youth Forum organized a presentation on the youth, and invited applications from students for participation in this camp.

Soft Skills Training Programme for Delhi Police Constables was organized from 3rd December, 2012 to 7th December, 2012. 34 police personnel from 17 police stations of West District participated in the training. The programme was very well received and the participating trainees gave excellent feedback at the end of the programme.

An Investor Awareness Programme was organized by ICSI(Institute of Company Secretaries of India)on 7th January, 2013. Besides discussing various investment strategies, certain career options, in particular for students of commerce and Mathematics were also discussed.<

NSS volunteers participated in the Voter Awareness Programme organized by Election Commission on 21st January, 2013.

The Art of Living organization staged a drama on the present day grim situation of issues related to women on 30th January, 2013.

Cancer Awareness Programme was organized by Cipla on 15th February, 2013. Highlighting the dangerous effect of tobacco on cancer was the aim of the programme.

A Dental Health camp was organised for all staff and students on 21st April,2015, in association with Apollo Dental, Punjabi Bagh . Dental checkups were done and students were informed about the need of dental hygiene.

A Yoga  session was organised in college, on International day of Yoga, 21st June 2015. Yoga instructors from Bhartiya Yoga Sansthan, Rohini were invited for  conducting the session. The session saw huge participation from students and staff. Students were enlightened about benefits about Yoga.

A Blood Donation Camp was organised on 28th July 2015 in association with Mission Jan Jagriti Blood Bank. More than 85 students donated their blood.

Soft skills play a vital role for professional success; they help one to excel in the workplace and improve ones emotional quotient, a much needed attribute in today’s hectic and competitive environment. A two hour Soft skills training session was conducted  for college office staff on 11th August , 2015.

The NSS Unit organised a Kite flying festival on 14th August, 2015, on the eve of Independence Day.

The NSS Unit has served the college by sensitizing students to the present day social issues. It has worked hard to imbibe in its volunteers the values of truth, patriotism and honesty, and it will continue in its pursuit of working towards the betterment of institution, society and our country.
