Biochemistry

The discipline of Biochemistry today occupies a pivotal position in teaching and research as it deals with scientific basis of life processes at the molecular level. New advances in biological sciences are only possible with thorough understanding of the underlying principles of Biochemistry.

The Department of Biochemistry was established in the year 1988. It is conducting three year undergraduate course (six semester) leading to B.Sc. (Hons.) Biochemistry. The course include the papers like Biomolecules, Biophysics, Chemistry, Technical Writing & Communication in English / Computational Skills, Biochemical Techniques, Mathematics & Statistics, Proteins & Enzymes, Metabolism of Carbohydrates & Lipids, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Bioenergetics, Metabolism of Amino acids & Nucleotides, Membrane Biology, Hormone Biochemistry, Immunology, Genetics & Genomics, Molecular Physiology & Recombinant DNA Technology.

The department has all basic infrastructural facilities for teaching and research. The laboratories are well equipped with latest state of the art instruments. The department organizes seminars/symposiums, workshops, invited lectures on regular basis sponsored by funding agencies like Department of Science and Technology(DST), Department of Biotechnology(DBT), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR) and University Grant Commission(UGC) . After completing their B.Sc. (H) Biochemistry, students pursue their post graduation in various disciplines like Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Plant Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Biomedical Science etc.

There are eight teaching faculties and four non teaching staff members in the department. All the faculty members are highly qualified and are specialized in various fields of Biochemistry.
